Our i:SY P12 models are equipped with PINION's revolutionary Motor.Gearbox.Unit (MGU). This unit skilfully combines the gear shift and motor. The closed unit fits perfectly into our i:SY 2.0 frame and takes you anywhere with ease.
The novelty: a transmission range of 600 percent and 85 Nm of assistance. The MGU's range is thus significantly higher than that of other common hub gears, which range from 263 to 525 percent. In addition to the powerful torque of 85 Nm or up to 160 Nm in first gear on the drive shaft, maximum assistance of up to 400% is available. This value describes how much the motor amplifies the force applied to the pedal.
Due to its closed system, the MGU is extremely low-maintenance and virtually wear-free. Optimally coordinated, the motor adjusts its speed according to the gear selected and the cadence. This creates a harmonious riding experience. Another advantage of the MGU is that it is possible to shift gears under load. This is particularly practical on unexpected inclines. In the semi-automatic Start.Select and Pre.Select modes, you can set your desired gear for starting off, or the gears adjust according to your speed. This is particularly noticeable when coasting downhill. In the fully automatic Auto.Shift mode, the gear adjusts comfortably to your speed.
